Advertising is critical to the success of your business. That being said, choosing the right advertising methods can be a difficult undertaking, especially for new entrepreneurs. Online advertising has now become the main advertising medium for many businesses. Some benefit immensely from it while others don't. Online advertising can be a very cost effective method of advertising, but here again you will have to do your research and your testing to see how to make it worth your while.
While your online ads can reach millions on the internet it does not necessarily mean that your business will make money from them. To monetize your advertising efforts you'll have to advertise to the consumers who you want to buy your product or service.

In your online advertising most times you have control over who will see your ads; however, sometimes when you go through an online ad agency you do not have that control. What this does is that your ad end up on sites that are not relevant to your business.
Lets look at a hypothetical scenario here:
You do an ad in your local print media with the anticipation that you'll get a 10% response and a 10% sale from those responses. You advertise to 10,000 potential clients, you get 1000 responses, from that 1000 response you make 100 sales. Not bad.
You want to apply a similar ad online at about the same cost. Now it cost less per ad so you pay an online ad agency to send your ad to 1,000,000 expecting 100,000 to response with 10,000 sales. Whoops! Your response was significantly less. What happened here?
What happened is that your ad was blasted to anybody and everybody, which means it was sent to the general public. It was not sent to a target audience.
Advertising your business online has its advantages and disadvantages. You can reach a lot more people faster and cheaper, but because there are so many people online looking for so many different things at any given moment, unless your ad is targeting your specific market your advertising efforts might not be worth it.
The bottom line here is to make the most out of your advertising dollar and for you to achieve this, you have to learn the art of target marketing. You have to develop your advertising campaign specifically targeting your market. By learning the art of target marketing your online advertising will pay off big time.
