There are many online marketers who are getting lots of traffic to their website, yet they are not making enough money to maintain their business. This can sometime lead to much frustration and headaches, but it doesn't have to be that way.
While traffic is very important, there are two other factors that MUST be adhere to - TARGETED and CONVERSION. To maximize your marketing efforts your traffic MUST be targeted - and you MUST consistently work to improve your conversion rates.
Before you even start marketing pay close attention to your market research by following these simple guidelines:
* Decide on the market you will be building your business in, example music. Music would be the general market; however, that topic would be too wide, so you will need to find a niche within that market, example guitar lessons.
You could fine tune that niche even more by targeting a specific style of music, example smooth jazz for baby-boomers - or hip hop for teens. To take it a step further you could target 90's top 100. Of course these are just examples to give you an idea.
Now, you will want to stick with something that:
(a) You have a passion for... or You have some experience in...
(b) There is a ready market for... AND
(c) The market is willing and able to buy.
Point C above is very important. There are lots of groups out there who are looking for what you have; however, many of them might not be willing and able to buy.
In your research you should try to find groups of people who have purchased in the past, as this might be an indication that they will purchase again.
Visit online chat rooms, forums and community sites to learn what people are looking for. If people are asking questions about a certain topic then there is a market for it. Now it is for you to identify how you can satisfy that market.
A very important note here is - the more specific you are with your marketing, is the more targeted traffic you will attract.
