You have just finished creating your new website and is anxiously looking forward to your first sale, but there is something critical missing. NO traffic! So how do you get traffic to your website? Well my friend, here's the reality...

There are millions of sites on the internet and more are being created daily, but many of them will never make a single dime. Why is that? To make sales with your website you need traffic, and lots of it! This is the most difficult challenge that most people face each day in starting their new web business.

Generating massive traffic to your new website will be your most critical activity as an online entrepreneur. There are many new skills that you will have to learn... BUT get this, if you want to make good money with your website you will have to make a concerted effort to master this one skill. Because without traffic nothing else really matters!

There are many ways to generate traffic to your site, but here are 5 simple yet effective steps you can take right now to start the ball rolling:

1. Make Sure That Your Main Keywords Are On Your Website - The first thing you want to do here is to have all of the keywords and phrases relevant to your topic on your website pages. The goal here is to start generating traffic from the search engines. Placing your main keywords on your site is an easy way to increase its rankings, thereby greatly increasing your web presence.

2. Provide Unique Content On Your Website - The search engines spiders are always on the prowl for content, but not just ordinary content. They are looking for unique content. Providing fresh and unique content that is relevant to your topic on a regular basis is a sure way to get your site indexed fast by the search engines.

3. Write And Submit Articles To Article Directories - Getting tons of high quality back links to your website is a critical part of the process, and one of the easiest ways to accomplish that is to write and submit good quality articles to article directories. To get the best results you want to submit these to sites like EzineArticles.com, GoArticles.com, IdeaMarketers.com and some other high ranking directories.

4. Submit Your Website To The Search Engines - To increase awareness about your website it is important to submit it to the search engines. This can be a time consuming and laborious task, but it has great rewards. There are also many programs that will do this for you, but choose them wisely.

5. Start Exchanging Links With Other Websites - Look for other websites with high popularity rankings and try to exchange links with the owners. This could really generate a lot of traffic as these sites already have it, and what you're doing is tapping into that flow of traffic that is already there.

Now these 5 steps are very important to get you started, but you have to be consistent. Don't just try to do everything this week or this month and then you take a break for the next 3 months, that's NOT how it work in the real world. You have to commit to the process to get the results you want. Be patient, it takes time.

IMPORTANT: A Word Of Caution Here - If you're just getting started DON'T spend all your time using safelists and traffic exchanges to get traffic to your new website. These can fast become time wasters. While you might be able to get some traffic from these sources they are NOT highly targeted, and you will have to spend a lot of time doing that. Before you can have a successful home based business, you must first possess 3 "intangibles." These are things that must come from WITHIN you.

===> Intangible 1 <===

First,you must have a strong WHY.

Why MUST you have a successful home business? What is driving you? What is it that you CAN'T have in your life anymore and/or what is it that you absolutely MUST HAVE now?

For me, I couldn't stand working 12+ hours a day anymore and missing the experience of my children growing up. I also absolutely HAD TO HAVE the freedom of being able to control my life and finances through a little box (laptop computer) that I could carry with me anywhere in the world and not be tied to anyone's time pressures or demands but my own. That was my carrot and my stick. I felt a great pain deep in my gut of missing out on my children's lives and the incredible freedom that succeeding in a home based business would provide for me. I found my why. You MUST find yours.

===> Intangible 2 <===

You must BELIEVE that it is possible.

If you don't believe that it's POSSIBLE for you to have a successful home based business or make your living from home, you won't. It's that simple.

For me, figuring out that it was possible was just a matter of realizing that many other people were ALREADY making great money working from home. If they could do it, I could too. It would just be a matter of figuring out what those people were doing and then adapting it to my situation.

There is no shortage of undeniable PROOF that people (millions of them) are making money working from home. You need to stop analyzing the game and simply jump into it. You can't learn from the outside... You have to be *IN THE RING* to truly understand and profit from it. In fact, this is a business where you can truly be earning WHILE you're still learning...

The lesson here is that you will never really be READY to start a home based business. You simply have to start one. It's like having children... You're never really ready, but when it happens you adapt and grow and therefore you succeed. This is what I call: "Making the Leap"!

In the "brick and mortar" world you need to evaluate things very carefully before you decide to open up a business.
